The Babbling Brook
Golf News
by Ray Perry
The golf season is mid-way through and things are picking up. It’s been so busy that we have actually run out of carts twice in the past two weeks! As long as we can turn the carts before people go out, that’s a good thing.
With play picking up, here are a few reminders. First off, it’s important that you check in with the golf shop. I know as a member you may feel it’s not necessary, but for us it is important to get an accurate round count. We are really going to be looking over our peak hours of play to run specials, and if our round counts are off we may schedule specials when they are not needed. Second thing is that with more people on the course it is imperative that players be aware of their pace of play. Our suggested pace of play is two hours per nine. One place to really watch is at the turn. Things have really gotten backed up at this point. Please get your food and use the restrooms in a timely manner.
In July, NorthBrook had two successful club events. The “Singled-Out Jamboree,” which Eric Urben, Melanie Falk, Al DeCleene, and Linda Rueckl would attest, was a big success. I think winning the event may skew their minds though. On July 19th & 20th we held our Club Stroke Play Championship. Phyllis Kincheloe won the Ladies Championship Flight in the gross division and Melanie Novinska won the net division. In the A Flight Mary Highdale took low net, and Cheri Peot was low gross.
Flight winners for men were: Championship Flight -Todd Westrich, A Flight – Joe Sherwood, B Flight – Rich Neely, C Flight – John Bur, D Flight – Don Miller. The top 16 men that qualified for the match play are: Todd Westrich, Matt Martin, Steve Senecal, Denny Proffitt, Tony Pfefferman, Eric Urben, Adam Slatky, Bob Vander Heyden, Jim Stangel, Bill Paul, John Haack, Rich Neely, Joe Sherwood, Jon Stadler, Rob Demovsky, and Dave Freeborg.
On August 2nd & 3rd, the top 16 men squared off for the Men’s Match Play Club Championship. In the final match, Todd Westrich defeated Jim Stangel to become the Northbrook Club Champion. In the consolation match, Dave Freeborg defeated Adam Slatky for 3rd & 4th respectively.
Our next fun-filled Jamboree will be August 10th. We will be playing a one best ball on the 3’s, two best ball on the 4’s, and three best ball on the 5’s format. Signup soon!
The Evans Scholarship Outing will be held Monday August 18th. Signups have been posted, and raffle tickets are available in the Pro Shop.
The Senior Club Championship will be played the weekend of August 23rd. It will be low gross & low net for men and women over the age of 60. If you have any questions please ask the golf shop staff.
I know I am getting a little long winded here, but just a few more quick things. First, when putting on bug spray, please do not spray while standing on the grass or greens. It will kill the grass. Second, I would like to thank John Haack and Diane Nejedlo for donating the balls they have found over the years to the range.
Thanks for a great season so far,
Ray Perry & your Golf Staff
